Escape

After an exhausting hour through the woods of Verillan, Therius and Élymnas decided to repose for a little while.
"Therius...I'm not feeling so well..."
Therius felt a beaming aura from amongst the tall pines, it was a grand old yew, maybe as old as the ages itself. He walked over to the yew, it seemed to be glowing a bright gold.
"Wow! This must be that same tree" he said to himself quietly as he touched the bark. He stared at the roots and there was an unusual abundance of Verillas. He stripped of the bark but disappeared without a trace.

"Therius, if it's so important then let's just go! Therius? Therius?"
"This is not funny, where are you?" Élymnas cried out as her impatience began to show.
She stared at the golden yew. She too was mesmerised by its beauty.
She stepped forward to feel the smooth bark, but all of a sudden, she felt a weird sensation. After a bright flash, she opened her eyes.

"Therius! Where are we?" questioned Élymnas, as she checked for any signs of injuries.
"Look dear, there!" Therius pointed with excitement. The sign read Deluna, town of the drake. And then all of a sudden, a rush of blood forced Therius into a new level of excitement. His jaws dropped. The portal had teleported them to a strange place.
"Oh my...Élymnas dear, remember that book we read together?"
"Which one?" she asked
"The old one about the drake?"
"Yes, I remember now, the drake who was a menace to the township of Deluna, definitely a good read that one!"
"DELUNA?!" exclaimed the two.
"But it cannot be...what...am I dreaming?" but Élymnas shook her head. Élymnas pondered too if it were a dream. She now believed in magic.

"Do you know what this means?!" said Therius.
"I'm afraid I do, we're never gonna get home!"
They ventured north for a while, eyes wide awake and absorbing the foreign yet comfortable ambience of the new found land. Amongst the buildings was a local Inn named the Drake's. Élymnas began to stumble.
"Therius I think I'm gonna be ill" she weakly said right before she collapsed.
Taken by surprise, Therius rushed her into the inn and shouted out for help.
"Excuse me, anyone know where the nearest physician resides?"
An old man levered himself and then inspected dear Élymnas.
"It's nothing too serious lad, only a minor case of fainting - say, you must be from outta town aren't ya lad?"
"Well...yes we both are, what should I do about her? - do you need any assistance whatsoever?"
"Well I can't quite put my finger upon one thing, say lad, could ya fetch me an aid kit from the basement? - I seem to have forgotten mine"
Given the directions, Therius rushed down a narrow hallway and descended some old stairs down to a dark room, formally known as a basement. A putrid stench awaited him.
"Ew...what is that stink, that's even worse than that time I fell into the pigsty?" - Therius murmured as he looked around for an aid kit. He searched and searched until finally, he found one. But his eyes were now drawn towards a strange head on the wall.
It was a drake's head with candles lit within the eyes and mouth. He approached it eventually. It was the most fascinating wall decoration he had ever seen. However, a flashback knocked him to the ground violently.

My scales are red and gold
My breath shall break the cold
In the place beneath the ground
Deluna may be found

"My head...what is happening?"
His mind could not let go of a riddle he was told within the Book of the Adventures of the Golden Knight. Therius had always labelled himself quite a fool.
"What kind of a riddle is that?"
"Clearly that drake was hiding something in his underground cave!"
A strange noise filled the air, he grew taunted.
"Who's there?" he shouted but no reply.
His mind was consumed with a voice which spoke.
"Hello Therius, you're the first person to have ever solved my riddle" a man's voice spoke
"Hello? Who are you?"
"I am the Sir Auron, the knight from the book you read. Clearly you have been led here by fate, well I must leave now - find the king's gem!" the voice said as it faded.
"What gem? Hello? Hello?" he kept shouting out.

"Ok, that was all a just a thought, there is no gem or Golden knight in reality, or is there?" He thought as he realised he and Élymnas had been teleported into Deluna, which was clearly the township of where the famed king's gem was lost.
He shook his head as he grabbed the aid kit and moved towards the stairs. However, a stream of light burst from arrear. The green beam blinded him as he turned towards it.

"What is it now?" he pondered.
Stepping towards the drake's head, he peered into it. No word can describe his reaction to what he had found.

It was the fabled gem of the king, crystal of the brave, it was the Eludan. "Holy...mother of mercy..." Therius spoke in a nervous voice.
"This cannot surely be - there must be some explanation to this!"
"Lad! - have you found it or not? Mi old woman be faster than you ya know?!"
"Er...coming sir!" he shouted as he quickly shoved the crystal into his pouch and ascended the staircase.
"What took you so long lad?" questioned the physician.
"I was admiring the surroundings, yes that's it, my! What a nice inn you have here" Therius blabbered as the inskeeper gave him a drowning look of hatred.
The place was run down, the only lightsource was dim, and not to mention the filthy looking tables and the broken chairs. The place was in dire need of new furnishing.
The townsfolk, they all began to laugh.
"Weer ya from outsider?!" asked a man
"Yeah, what town do ya hail from?" asked another
"I'm from a tiny village named Grymm, it's a pleasant little village it is"
"Grim? - no wonder you came here!" snorted Welling, the town blacksmith.

The night was sure to be long. There was so much Therius had still not been able to comprehend. How on Thyrria were they to reach Faldûr. Therius carried his wife up towards the staircase, and gently placed her on the bed, the one thing which looked clean.
Sweat was running from down Élymnas' body. She was a strong woman yet resembled that of Venus'. She had long brown hair, fairly tanned skin, and a beautiful body. Her eyes were bright and her lips were as soft as a baby's skin. She smelt of roses and as the sweat streamed down her body, Therius began to stare at her face with an effeminate look. She was an angel to Therius. As he placed his hands on hers, he began to reminisce the time they first met.

It was sunset on the day of his cousin Syral's wedding. The wind blew gentle and the sun was fading giving way to the night. They were young, both eager to find love after having battered childhoods. As Therius sat at the table, he reached for a clean bowl, and so did Élymnas, infact the exact same bowl. The two dropped the bowl and it shattered on the table, as they looked into each other's eyes.
"Therius...what are you doing?"
"Young girl, what is wrong with you?"
The memories then faded as the physician returned to the room.

"Lad..."
"It's Therius, and you are?"
"Nice to know Therius, mi name's Ievanol physician of the town"
"Nice to meet you too Ievanol, so how's my wife, she seems to be awefully sweaty"
"Right, it seems...say lad, is that Verilla"
"Yes, it's extremely rare you know?!" he said
But the man began to laugh.
"You've got to be joking! It's one of the most common fungi available! Now get me some boiled water, it makes some good tea you know, Kloghan tea we call it."
Therius believed him and swiftly responded.
"Thank you lad" he said as he measured Élymnas' temperature.
She began to cough.
"Élymnas dear, are you alright? stay with me dear!" Therius spoke.
"It's alright lad, she's...she's just um..."
"What? Tell me!"
"She's, well I think she may be pregnant! Congratulations lad!"
A strange silence soon followed, but ended with a blast of excitement.
"Huh?...You serious?"
"Well what you do, is up to you lad!"
Élymnas opened her eyes.
"Did you hear that dear? I'm going to be a father!"

She smiled as she grabbed his hand.
As he reached for some tea, the crystal fell into the cup without notice.
"Drink up dear, our child must grow up strong and healthy!"
Everybody seemed to be happy, the night was to be even longer than expected.
